There are a number of OTHER SERVICE OPTIONS that can either be added to the traditional Services or be ‘stand-alone’ Services.

A Viewing of the deceased can take place at the attended cremation or funeral service but it can also be an event on its own. Often when people are travelling in from all parts of the world they feel a need to spend a few moments with their loved one. To prevent additional transportation of the deceased a viewing often takes place before the cremation, burial or church service.

Attending a Wake can also be a good way of celebrating the life of the deceased. The advantage of a Wake is that it is usually arranged in the comfort of the family home which is often an atmosphere more conducive to sharing of memories and grieving openly. A  Wake can take many forms from a tea in a family member’s home, to the sharing of food and drink over a meal at a local restaurant, or even gathering for a picnic in honour of the deceased

Another moment for reflection and remembering the deceased is at the internment or scattering of ashes. Many churches have memorial walls or gardens where ashes can be interred and a plaque placed in memory. If the deceased had a favourite place (e.g. a particular beach) the ashes are often scattered there, perhaps after a brief service or prayer, or with just a casual gathering of family and friends.
